The American odyssey of Lightning McQueen, the young hotshot rookie race car driven to win at all costs. When he gets into an accident that wrecks him after a catch-up crash with fellow racer Jackson Storm, he is rebuilt by his technician friend Mater and sent back for one final race to show what he can do. On August 18, 2014, "Cars 3" was announced by Walt Disney Pictures with John Lasseter set to direct again with "Inside Out" writers Josh Cooley and Denise Ream producing it along with Kiel Murray. The film premiered in theaters and IMAX on June 15, 2017 and received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the animation but criticized the plot. The film was released on Blu-ray (3D & 2D), Blu-ray 3D & DVD combo pack which included an exclusive Cars character video game disc as well as DVD & Digital HD on November 7th 2017. Disney announced on September 20, 2017 that a sequel is in development and will be released on June 15, 2019. The film will be the final installment in the franchise and is planned to feature original characters. John Lasseter and Pixar president Ed Catmull will return as directors for the film and co-produce with Michelle Murdocca and Brad Lewis.
